Office Of The San Francisco District Attorney Exhibition
I am very pleased that “The Dreamers” will be on display for a year at the Office Of The San Francisco District Attorney as part of an exhibition for the victims’ and families’ lounge as well as public facing hallways of the SFDA’s Office. The curation was to highlight work that inspires a “visual retreat from adversity, with the aim of generating a sense of comfort, ease, and well-being.”
Curated by Dr. Meghan Lewis MacLeod— ecofeminist, abstract, mixed media artist, curator, consultant, counselor, and coach.
This painting is very special to me and is filled with hope so I was delighted when it was selected. And it was lovely to receive a note from the curator that my painting was hand picked by the DA herself to be installed in the most prominent area!
More about the painting... I felt so inspired, hopeful, and grateful watching kids perform salsa dancing in a dusty, rural South African school yard after spending a week with them as part of my daughter’s school delegation trip. I wanted to make a painting inspired by these kids, who were so joyful yet also growing up in challenging conditions. I was completely enamored with the smallest pair in the dance troupe. Besides talent, they took their performance in front of us and their peers very seriously and I wanted to make a realistic portrait of them. I chose the lush rainforest setting symbolically thinking of the idea of abundance, chaos, music, light, and beauty. Words that also seem to align with dreaming big.
